This waterfront is about two minutes away from where I went to school and now work. It holds many distinct memories, packaged up like snapshots in my mind, from the last seven years. My first memory is of visiting colleges when I was 16 or 17 and coming down to eat on the waterfront. My mom, grandma and I sat in the sunshine on a big deck on the water and I wore a coral knee length skirt and a blue polo (blech). I remember being full of excitement, possibility, and adventure - having just found the school I knew I'd attend.
The second is, appropriately, of a second date. My first college boyfriend and I had gone to a piano concert in the chilly February weather, and wandered down to the water to sit in a dark and cozy booth at a dim, but fancy bar. I remember spending the entire time terrified that I'd be kicked out for being under 21, but no one ever asked. We walked the entire length of the waterfront talking and I froze to death in a thin jacket.
Since then, it has been a place to stroll in the summer, a place to eat and drink at many of the waterfront taverns (I've since legally returned to that bar with the booths), a place to watch the sunset while eating gyros, a place to drive at night when I was homesick and just needed to see the sea. I'm happy that it has made it onto the blog as well... it seems only fitting.
