On Monday we head back to Seattle and leave behind the tropical island and all of the new photo locations (boo!). Above are some snapshots of the trip so far.
Ben and I visited the winery about 10 minutes from the house I grew up in and the only winery on the island. The winery, as you can see from the sign, is the southernmost winery in the U.S. and supplements many of their grapes with tropical fruit like the jaboticaba. We had a great time tasting sweet local wine and then headed down to the local brewery in Hilo called Mehana that offered free tastings and a gecko that lived under the cash register and drank the left-over beer.
We also spent just about every other day at the beach where Ben snorkeled and I enjoyed the salt water and gentle waves and attempted to tan myself (burns resulted, no tan as of yet). After the beach we headed into town to get shave ice in our favorite flavors. I think we hit the shave ice shop three times and the beach upwards of five out of eight days we were here. As you can see I also borrow my Mom's Loft cardigan as I didn't bring a jacket and it was a bit chilly. I'd highly recommend checking it out if you need a simple cardigan.
Today (Saturday) was my birthday and we headed up the mountain into the chilly weather at about 7,000 feet elevation and enjoyed a French themed picnic! Can't believe I'm 24 and that this decade is already flying by. Hold your horses year!
