This City is a Garden (with Lulu*s)

Ben started medical school orientation today, so it was my first solo walk in and out of work. I was feeling a bit gloomy about wandering through the city to work all by my lonesome (I think listening to Cat Power wasn't helping my mood either) and I noticed that the trees outside the apartment were just starting to think about fall. Some little leaves were turning yellow near the crown of some spindly trees on the waterfront walk. The weather was grey, low hanging clouds over the river and it looked like morning rain was headed into the city. I feel worried that fall is close on us and soon the rain will set in and my walks will be not only lonely, but sopping wet. I am stilling trying to figure out what I am going to do for rain-gear when I walk to work in the winter. Thoughts from seasoned city walkers/bikers/travelers in need of hoods?

I am not ready to give up tanks, like this Obey tank from Lulu*s, or maxi dresses, or everything in white (and ack, Labor Day is upon us!). I am going to try to get creative this fall with some bright colors to accent my dreary Northwest skies and am thinking I want to invest in a brightly colored or pastel winter coat for the days that aren't rainy, but just downright chilly.

  14. Modcloth always has some cute raincoats for pretty reasonable prices. I'd also check out the back to school sales for trenches, and I'd get a bubble umbrella. Rain boots are a must because you don't want to ruin your shoes.

  20. Look at those shoes! Love the gold detailing on them -- you could almost add a fun detail like that to a plan pair of black pumps to give them a fresh update.

  21. I walk to school in Oregon rain every day and all I can say is...boots...every single day. I also try to tuck as much of my hair as possible into my hood or under my coat and use an umbrella on top of that so my hair doesn't turn into a frizz bomb. Good luck!
