My guilty pleasure is (bad) TV. I'll watch just about anything (except cartoons). I'm guilty of watching some bad, bad reality - The Bachelor and The Bachelorette series, America's Next Top Model (and some good, like Project Runway). Weird sci-fi series like Continuum, Firefly, and Battlestar Gallactica. A few in the foreign category like the Korean miniseries Boys over Flowers, the weird Scottish Monarch of the Glen, the myriad British detective shows from the BBC. Any drama, old or new, Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Sex and the City over and over again, The Carrie Diaries, you name it.
I'm currently watching Dawson's Creek for the first time because it was a bit before my time - I was nine when the show originally aired. I'm most of the way through the first season and though the cheesy music, bad hair, terrible style, and scripting can be a bit gag-worthy, like most TV shows, I'm already sucked into the storyline and the romances. TV writers certainly have it down - perhaps it's the cliffhanger, always present in TV, or the character development they are allowed with a long series.
I think I just get sucked into the possibility of a long, drawn-out story and a few friends to spend time with. I am totally guilty of getting so into a story that I feel like the characters are family and I go through a sense of loss when the series ends. I remember crying for hours at the end of Gilmore Girls. I cry every single week at Parenthood. Grey's Anatomy pulled me through the ringer when I first started watching in high school. Breaking Bad made me bite my nails (more than usual) and feel paranoid. There's something addictive about that kind of bizarre, sad emotional connection to people made up for TV.
What are your guilty pleasure TV shows? Because I'm always happy to delve into something totally terrible!

ReplyDeleteVery pretty dressed up casual look! I need to get a similar pair of black riding boots. They can really pull a casual look together.
ReplyDeleteI just started watching Gossip Girl for the first time. Needless to say, I'm hooked. I'm a little bit embarrassed about my current obsession, but my husband has been very understanding. ;)

I am alllll about bad tv. I have my good picks that I will let people know I actually watch and then there are some shows that are just so horrible I can't bring myself to say them!
ReplyDeleteoh my you make me feel horribly old when you say Dawson's Creek wasn't in your time lol AND I am in love with the Carrie Diaries. I do love TV too, well its my main source of entertainment, so why not?
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh me too!!! You'd think i'm not a productive person because my favorite downtime is to watch shows! Any shoes and I don't like cartoons! If you like mystery, you should watch "The Following", My hubby and I discovered it this month and watched the whole first season in 3 days!
ReplyDeletePS: That is one Fabulous jacket! I like how you styled it!!
