I shared some photos from a styled New Year's Eve game night yesterday but didn't touch upon what to wear for NYE, probably one of the most joyful occasions to dress for all year. It's the one opportunity that you have wild abandon to reach for minis, glittery, sparkly, inappropriate, metallic, sky-high heels, fun accessories, and a general mad and shiny outfit.
For this stay-in, keep it comfortable and low-key game night though, Jenni, Suzannah and I all immediately thought of something warm, something already in our closets (what's more stressful than running around looking for glittery dresses that don't do any favors to a holiday-season body on December 31st?). We landed on neutrals, soft greys, happy polka dots, and tulle as some more grown-up options for a game night.
I settled on this outfit of neutrals with pearls as accessories, a bit of a throwback to NYE parties of many a year ago. Though my dress was off-white, my jacket had hints of sparkle in it that caught the light just right. A tiny nod to the disco-ball attire that's often reached for. The best thing about this look? It was already in my closet, can be worn again and again, and was so comfortable!

It's a bit too late to shop for New Year's Eve, but I think that an outfit like this is so versatile that it can be taken from the office in the summer to a high tea, back to a meeting, into a brunch, and then repurposed with a sparkly jacket and heels for a big holiday! The ingredients you need? A solid dress, an interesting jacket/sweater/cardigan, and a pair of staple heels. Then you can accessorize in baubles, pearls, sparkly hair pieces and be holiday ready in a second. As Shopbop has a gigantic sale going on today (up to 77% off!), I thought I'd share some favorite versatile pieces to inspire you!

Stay tuned all week for Suzannah's party post, a great Manhattan recipe, oyster and tabasco appetizer inspiration, a panna cotta dessert recipe, a bit more on New Year's Style that forgoes sequins and focuses on comfy neutrals, and an awesome set of free printables from Jenni for your party!

Looking good ladies! I love the Champagne pouring photos.
ReplyDeleteAll three of you look so pretty! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the dress you are wearing. Not that I would wear it, I'm not a dress person. I usually feel very uncomfortable wearing one. But I still love looking at dresses and this one could be the type that I would wear, was I to wear one. It's plain but very elegant.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your NYE!
You all look so classy and pretty! Loving the champagne photos! Hope you have a great New Year
ReplyDeleteHeh, I'll be hanging at home in something cozy but probably not fashionable, watching the ball drop at Times Square and reminiscing about being in the middle of it on New Year's Eve in the 1980s.
ReplyDeleteSuch a super cute outfit perfect for a great New Years Eve. Happy New Year to you!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the shoot!
