Chocolate-Covered Everything

I'm sure you're tired of everyone on the West Coast waxing poetic about the gorgeous sunshine, blooming trees, and general unseasonably warm spring we're having. But rest assured, a bit of grey came back today and we're expecting rain tonight. Your sunshine-Instagram-spam is over.

While the weather was gorgeous, Ben and I took the chance to go on a long hike at Tryon Creek park down near Lake Oswego and got some much needed sunshine on our faces and a good work-out, climbing some ridges and hills. Whenever we walk or hike, we always brainstorm things that we'll eat when we're done (food-centric, it seems) and on that sunny day we'd come up with a giant list of things to eat. Fish and chips, a milkshake, a burger at a 50s-themed diner, giant peanut butter cookies, and finally a big sushi lunch. Once we'd finally gotten back to the car we were starving but the giant list of fatty foods sounded a bit anti-hike. A beautiful day in the sunshine, feeling good about the outdoors? It didn't coincide with beer battered fish or calorie-laden milkshakes. We actually decided to just pick up some post-hike snacks at Walmart instead. These DOVE® Fruit (available in cranberry, blueberry, and cherry) are a serious guilty-pleasure for Ben and I (but absolutely a better-for-you alternative to massive milkshakes and burgers). I've always been a sucker for chocolate-covered anything and chocolate-covered fruits contain the right amount of sweet and the right amount of texture! I can eat an entire bag of these in under a day (not recommended, but absolutely do-able).
It ended up being such a gorgeous day, and seventy degrees, that we took our DOVE® Fruit outside into the park for a picnic lunch dessert. I had to wrestle them away from my chocolate-loving Ben to save a few for myself, but I'll be honest - there are none left in the house four days later. Whoops! We've been enjoying them as a post-dinner snack instead of ice cream or gelato and they've gone great with some of our recent spring-veggie-filled meals. I love feeling like I can have a little indulgence at the end of the day that isn't as heavy as most desserts.

I'm honestly craving some more after a stressful week and have been brainstorming more occasions to enjoy them (perhaps a recipe? Check out the DOVE® Fruit social hub here)

  1. Now you're talkin' - quilt people are funny, they like the 3 "c's": cloth, cats and chocolate - at a retreat in Sisters a couple years ago, there was a fishbowl full of M&Ms with a sign on it that said "quilter's vitamins" - LOL!!

  2. I admit whenever I am out doing strenuous activity - be it at the gym or hiking - I too am thinking about what I get to eat when I'm done too! I need it as my carrot!
