Going Short

Heels: Michael Kors, old (same in brown, similar)

I am not sure when I started growing out my hair, but I recall my last "more-than-two-inches-off" haircut was a while back. My hair has been at it's longest point for almost a year now and though I was growing it out to accommodate wedding hairstyles, it had been bugging me for quite some time. There comes a certain point with long hair (about when it reaches the mid-back) that it starts to get caught in everything - like zippers, your mouth, yogurt, other people's mouths. And that's kind of gross. I can't tell you how many times I ripped a chunk out of my hair by trying to zip up a rain jacket in a squall, getting hair caught in the zipper and jerking my head back in pain.

One week before we flew to Hawaii, I stopped at my salon, got 1/4 of an inch off to get rid of some nasty split ends and let my hairstylist know that I'd be back, in two short weeks to get rid of it all. He just laughed and said that's the case with every single bride that's growing her hair out for a wedding hairstyle. It gets a bit old.

Besides it getting caught in everything and anything within a two foot radius of my head, I got the feeling that a new last name and a new status as married should come with a new something else - and why not go the shortest I've gone in years, try to emulate some celebrity's lob (I'm looking at you Charlize), and feel fresh for spring. I've been loving my hair lately, despite my change aversion, and it seems to be growing out really nicely (the above photos were taken about a week ago right when I'd gotten it cut and it was a bit bouncy). Bonus? My yogurt is now hair free and my hair, equally yogurt free!
